Description
Length: 24 cm (9.5 in) Dull yellowish bill, yellow-orange eyering in male; upperparts and chest coppery green with strong bluish gloss on crown, neck and tail.

Range
Amazon basin; e Colombia, e Peru, Brazil, south to Paraguay and northern Argentina.

Habitat
Found along humid forested borders of rivers and streams, swampy river islands, varzea borders and second growth woodland.

Niche
Occurs alone,or in pairs. Sluggish; often perches quietly for long periods. Hovers while gleaning fruit and insects from canopy and mid-levels. Flight is dipping and headlong.

Life History
Found in humid terre firme and varzea forest, in tall second growth and at edges.Nests in tree holes or cavities in termite nests; lays 2-5 white eggs.

Status
Uncommon, seen along the Quebrada Blanco.
